The academic year in Albania typically starts in early October. Because of this, the vast majority of universities operate on a Fall Intake system.
The best time to apply as an international student is between May and July. While some private universities accept applications right up until late August or early September, applying earlier is strongly recommended to account for document equalization and visa processing.
The main reason you shouldn't wait until August to apply is the academic recognition process. Before an Albanian university can officially finalize your admission, your high school diploma or previous university degree must be recognized and equalized by the QSHA (Center for Educational Services) in Albania. This process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a month and requires authenticated translations of your documents. Additionally, if you are from a non-EU country, you will need to apply for an Albanian Student e-Visa. While the online e-Visa system has streamlined the process (often taking around 2 weeks), giving yourself at least 2 to 3 months of buffer time before October is the safest bet.
A few private universities offer a limited Spring Intake (January/February), but it is rare and mostly restricted to specific master's programs or transfer students. If you want the full range of English-taught undergraduate or graduate choices, you should strictly aim for the Fall Intake timeline.
